ATM Attacks on the Rise as Fraudsters Head Back to the Branch
With so many data breaches targeting merchants, banks and credit unions should not assume they are in the clear. Visa reported that it has notified 97 different institutions in recent years of an active ATM cash out fraud event or anomalous activity that led it to believe an attack was imminent.

Fraud Alert: Shared Branching Network
Fraudulent cashier’s checks are circulating within the Shared Branching network. The checks appear to be originating from Triangle Credit Union and Louisiana Federal Credit Union and are being generated as part of a Craigslist scam.

More Can Be Done to Feed Hungry Children After School
More than 1.3 million children benefited from afterschool suppers according to the Food Research & Action Center. Four states, including Maine, increased the number of children participating in supper by more than 50 percent over 12 months, but more should be done to ensure low-income children have access to meals.
Inmates at Windham Correctional Facility Receive Financial Education
On October 25, the York County Chapter of Credit Unions hosted a Financial Fitness Fair at the Maine Correctional Facility in Windham. The chapter has hosted nine fairs at the facility since 2014.
