Value of League Membership and CUNA
Together, we can and do more!
Founded in 1938, the Maine Credit Union League continues to be a unifying force in bringing Maine’s credit unions together. We recognize that credit union members are the most important priority, so our mission is clearly focused on ensuring credit unions are in the right place at the right time with the right solution.
Our partnership with credit unions and our close affiliation with the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) provides the best opportunity for growth, strength and success. Our ability to cooperate and collaborate as a system enables us to provide the unsurpassed member service our industry is known for, as well as ensuring our staffs are well-trained, knowledgeable about compliance standards, and powered by purpose and commitment.
ADVOCACY AND COMPLIANCE
Advocacy on behalf of Maine’s credit unions remains a key component of our mission. The League has been instrumental in favorably influencing decisions on many important issues affecting credit unions and their members, from legislation to public opinion.
CUNA is the only national association that advocates on behalf of America’s credit unions. They work tirelessly to protect the best interests of credit unions in Washington, D.C., and in all 50 states, in concert with local leagues. They also fuel professional growth, champion the credit union story, and acknowledge that it’s what we do together that advances the movement.
Our 360-degree coordinated advocacy efforts send a strong message to Capitol Hill, state legislators, and our regulators. The results back it up. We make sure that policymakers and regulators know and understand why credit unions are the best financial services choice for Americans. If we don’t make sure of this, lawmakers and regulators won’t grasp the critical role credit unions play in their communities.
A few ways we work together include:
- Lobbying Congress on the most critical issues to defend, advance, and grow credit unions nationwide.
- Fighting regulatory burden.
- Mobilizing grassroots power to influence policymakers.
- Asserting credit union interests in the courts.
- Supporting credit union-friendly political candidates.
- Provide comprehensive training and education opportunities that integrate CU professionals from across the country (and world) to share best practices, expertise and knowledge.
From public policy developments, compliance updates, challenges and opportunities, to trends in payments technology, delivering cost-effective, cutting-edge products and services, through making investments in strategic partnerships, data security, and fraud, together, the League, in partnership with CUNA and our member credit unions, is here to ensure credit unions are strongly positioned for a successful future.
