Appraisers Bill Passes Unanimously
During a busy legislative week with bills still being printed and considered, the Labor Committee held a work session on Tuesday for LD 1514, legislation which will help address the real estate appraiser shortage. The committee unanimously voted Ought to Pass as Amended—a strong sign that the bill may be enacted.
Maine's Largest Credit Union Opens Scarborough Branch
Atlantic FCU has added to its footprint with a newly opened branch in Scarborough, located at the intersection of Payne and Ginn roads just off Exit 42 of the Maine Turnpike. The new branch features three drive-through lanes with ATMs and video teller technology.
Maine Credit Union Volunteer Recognized as a Community Champion
Financial education advocates from across the state came together this week at Junior Achievement of Maine’s 10th Annual JAM Fest to celebrate and honor the efforts of volunteers. At the event, a Maine credit union champion was recognized for her efforts in providing financial education to youth. Kylie Kennedy, Marketing Coordinator at Seaboard FCU, was presented with the well-deserved Student Impact Award.

After a year of dedicated fundraising, the team at Lisbon Community FCU recently gave back to their community by distributing more than $23,000—money which was raised in 2024 through the Campaign for Ending Hunger.

On Patriots’ Day, they held their third annual Here for U Day of Service, a credit union-wide initiative focused on giving back to communities across Maine. League Launches New Statewide Awareness Campaign Advertising
The League is proud to unveil new advertising that captures the heart of what it means to be part of a credit union. After a strong start to 2025—including a February campaign that warned consumers about overpayment scams—the League is now rolling out a new series of ads aimed at inspiring and connecting with audiences.
Appraisers Bill Heard and First Teaser of Towing
Late last week, the hearing for the League’s Appraisal Bill, LD 1514, was scheduled for Tuesday. The bill is in response to the appraisal shortage that is impacting Maine homebuyers’ ability to obtain timely and affordable appraisals. Additionally, there was a hearing for LD 1377 on Wednesday, which would convene a working group to study regulating the towing industry in Maine. While this is a bill being proposed by Secretary of State Bellows and is not the League towing bill, the League bill was discussed despite not yet having been printed. There were many supporters for the bill across industries.
Opportunity to Support the Auburn Public School Community
Credit unions have a unique opportunity to support the Auburn Public Schools this fall as they bring a pop-up farmers’ market to Park Avenue Elementary School for the school’s 2026 Open House. This family-focused event will highlight local foods, share information about food assistance resources, and connect kids and families to the local farm-to-school work occurring in the area.
