Chief Credit Officer


NorState FCU is hiring a Chief Credit Officer at a location to be determined.

Role:
The Chief Credit Officer is responsible for managing all aspects of monitoring the overall quality of the credit union’s loan portfolio. They oversee the credit union’s lending activities, which includes development, administration, and enforcement of loan policies and procedures, development of credit infrastructure and controls, monitoring of credit quality and risk, as well
as directs and coordinates all lending activities within the credit union to ensure a high quality of member experience in the loan process.

Reports to: President/CEO

Duties:

  1. Directs and monitors lending operations for the credit union through subordinate managers and supervisors. Establishes annual sales goals related to lending programs. Coordinate and execute effective lending programs and promotions that support credit union goals and objectives and fulfill member needs.
  2. Develops, revises, and prepares credit portfolio and risk management reports for the board and other senior management. Directs and oversees preparation of periodic financial, lending, and operations reports for management and analyzes loan data reports for corrective actions.
  3. Develops, proposes, gains acceptance for, and implements lending program policy and strategy. Ensures the credit union is in compliance with all lending policies and regulations and serves as a management contact with regulatory bodies on credit risk matters.
  4. Arranges for loan applications to be presented for approval when exceptions or combined loan approval is needed. Provides an overview and innovation in the areas of enhancing the member’s loan experience with the credit union.
  5. Treats people with respect; keeps commitments; inspires the trust of others; works ethically and with integrity; upholds organizational values; accepts responsibility for

  6. Ensure all lending activity adheres to established policies, procedures, and governmental regulations. Maintain high level of knowledge related to all lending areas.
  7. Maintain positive business relationships with all business contacts. Maintain good communication with subordinates and other Credit Union personnel.
  8. Maintain a well-trained, efficient, and effective lending staff. Provide necessary leadership, support, and training opportunities.
  9. Approves all loans above individual lender approval levels and below board levels and may personally handle a limited number of loans as needed.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience: At least ten years of similar or related experience
  • Education: A bachelor’s degree, or achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor’s degree (e.g., information technology certifications in lieu
    of a degree)
  • Interpersonal Skills: Work involves motivating and influencing other leaders and stakeholders to accomplish key organizational objectives. External contacts are vital, not only for the success of the position, but for the success of the organization overall. Work involves making material presentations to the Board of Directors, community leaders, and business leaders.
  • Other Skills: Thorough knowledge of banking practices, policies, procedures, operations, products, services, and regulations. May also include specialized knowledge in lending or investing. Specific knowledge of the philosophy and structure of the credit union industry. Thorough knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resource modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources. Considers the relative costs and benefits of potential actions and chooses the most appropriate one.
