CUNA and the FHFA to Hold Credit Union Listening Session on March 15
In 2022, the FHFA began a comprehensive review of the FHLBank System, holding roundtable discussions and listening sessions across the country. To ensure that the credit union perspective on the FHLBank System is heard during this process, CUNA is partnering with the FHFA to hold a credit union-specific listening session on March 15.
Tee Off to Help End Hunger
Even though there’s still snow on the ground, plans are underway for the Maine Credit Union League’s annual Ending Hunger Convention Golf Tournament taking place on May 18, 2023. Online registration is now open and spots are filling up fast. With a new location and a shotgun start format returning, we hope this year’s event will be our most successful fundraising tournament yet.
Maine State CU Celebrates Valentine's Day Week with a Special Sponsorship and Treats
Members certainly felt the love last week from Maine State CU. The credit union served as a major sponsor of the Maine Pond Hockey Classic and sold sweet treats to raise money for the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
New Member Scam Alert
The League has been made aware of a scam that impacted a member in Maine. Credit unions should consider sharing information about what transpired with their members and employees to keep them on alert. By raising awareness about the tactics criminals are using, credit unions can help prevent their members from becoming a victim.
Good Shepherd Food Bank's Longtime President to Depart in June
Kristen Miale, who has guided the Good Shepherd Food Bank for more than a decade, is stepping down as the President of the nonprofit on June 30.
League Meets with State Legislative Leaders in Augusta
On February 14, the League’s Governmental Affairs team, along with League President/CEO Todd Mason and Chief Relationship Officer Scott Johnsen, met with the leaders of the 131st Legislature. Admiration was in the air as meeting attendees spoke about the impact credit unions have on Maine’s communities. Democratic and Republican leaders indicated their willingness to support League policies.

Top Credit Union Fundraisers Announced at Annual Ending Hunger Event
Credit unions had a great deal to celebrate this week. In addition to surpassing our $1 million fundraising goal last year, top credit union fundraisers were honored during the annual Ending Hunger luncheon. Atlantic FCU was announced as the top credit union fundraiser in 2022, contributing $138,047.64 to combat hunger in the state. Gardiner FCU had the highest per member contributions at $3.78 per member.
Maine Credit Unions Reach New Fundraising Milestone in the Fight to End Hunger
Credit union representatives from across Maine came together this week to recognize the meaningful contributions our network made to combat hunger in 2022. At the annual event, Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger announced it raised $1,000,434.19 in food and cash donations last year—surpassing its million-dollar fundraising goal for the first time!
Oxford FCU Announces New President/CEO
The Oxford FCU Board of Directors recently announced that Joann Bisson will succeed Matt Kaubris as the next President & CEO of the credit union. Bisson joined Oxford FCU in January of 2022, bringing over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, including eight years served as CEO at her former credit union.
Join Us Next Week for a Town Hall Discussion with Regulators
Join the League on February 21 at 1:00 pm as we host our first credit union Town Hall of the year. Compliance will be the topic as we welcome representatives from the National Credit Union Administration and the Maine Bureau of Financial Institutions. They will highlight the latest supervisory guidance, the current status of in-person exams, implementation of regulations like CECL, and much more.
