Convention ‘filled up’ with generosity for ending hunger

Add generosity to the list of benefits that creating connections can make when it comes to fundraising.  The 2018 Maine CU League Convention once again demonstrated the generosity of credit unions, partners and individuals.  When the final winning bidder from the Silent Auction cashed out, it marked the end of the most successful 36-hours of fundraising in the history of the Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger.

It began on Thursday, May 17, with the Maine CU League’s Annual Convention Golf Tournament for Ending Hunger, with a full field of 144 golfers and a record amount of sponsors, and ended with a Silent Auction the following day that gave bidders some great deals but, more importantly, added up to a record-breaking amount raised.  Combined, the Golf Tournament and Silent Auction raised nearly $97,000 for the Campaign.

“The generosity and willingness to support both the Golf Tournament and Auction is truly amazing.  After last year’s record-setting total, nearly $15,000 more was raised this year.  Raising nearly $100,000 in two days for a cause that less than two decades ago raised $100,000 in total for a year, is a tribute to how far this Campaign has come, thanks to the dedication and commitment of so many people involved in supporting it.  We are grateful to the sponsors, players, donors, and bidders who made this possible.  Through this event alone, close to 400,000 meals will be provided to hungry Mainers.  However, with more than half a year’s worth of fundraising remaining, we have a lot of work to do but this is a great start,” stated Jon Paradise, Vice President of Public Affairs and Engagement for the Maine CU League.
