Closing Specialist


CUSO Home Lending is hiring a Closing Specialist at its Hampden location.

Primary Purpose of Position:

Work with staff and outside contacts to ensure that each loan is closed accurately and timely. Working as a team member in order to provide borrowers with timely and courteous service and to ensure that the final loan product is closed in compliance with all investor, government, and CUSO Home Lending regulations and guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Verify accuracy and consistency of specifications on title abstracts, insurance forms, and other required documents.
  • Assembles documents for delivery to title company, real estate broker, or lending officer for closing.
  • Reviews approved mortgage loans to determine conditions that must be met prior to closing.
  • Enters numbers and calculates loan interest and principal payment and closing costs, either by computer or using factor table and calculator.
  • Records loan information in log and on government reporting forms.
  • Type closing documents.
  • Calls borrow, real estate broker, and/or title company to request specified and required documents.
  • Answers questions regarding closing requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • A minimum of one year experience in mortgage loan processing preferred.
  • Paralegal specialized in real estate closings or individual with a minimum of two years experience preparing mortgage loan closing documents preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing, and oral communication skills.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to help others.
  • Ability to work as a team member and as an individual.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Basic computer skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Use of standard office equipment (telephone, copier, fax, personal computer and so on) is required on a daily basis.
  • Work requires the use of a video display terminal (VDT) and application of manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination (basic keyboarding).
  • Reading documents for general understanding (correspondence & memos) is often required, as well as reading documents for analytical purposes (appraisals and technical reports).
