Help Us Celebrate Your 2021 Ending Hunger Accomplishments
Please join us for a special virtual ceremony to celebrate the Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger. The Campaign’s overall fundraising results for 2021 will be announced and the top fundraising credit unions will be recognized. The event also will feature special guest speaker Nirav D. Shah, MD, JD, Director of Maine’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Dr. Shah will address the correlation between hunger and public health and share his experience responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.
About Nirav D. Shah, MD, JD
Since June 2019, Dr. Shah has served as the Director of Maine’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention. In this role, he leads Maine’s response to the current coronavirus pandemic, with extensive science-informed communication and outreach to communities. Previously, Dr. Shah served as the Director and CEO of the Illinois Department of Public Health from January 2015 to February 2019. His international work includes serving as an economist for the Government of Cambodia from 2002 to 2004.
Dr. Shah is a graduate of the University of Chicago, having received Doctor of Law and Doctor of Medicine degrees in 2007 and 2008 respectively. He is a recipient of the Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans.
