The York County Chapter of Credit Unions invited local legislators to attend its October 23 chapter meeting. Legislators were asked to provide insights into their work in Augusta and the impact legislative changes have on credit unions and their members. Senators Susan Deschambault and Bob Foley, and Representatives Don Marean, Donna Bailey, and Victoria Foley attended the event.

Each legislator was provided times to share a credit union story or discuss what they were planning to work on during r the upcoming legislative session. Then, the League’s Governmental Affairs team asked the participants a question about a credit union issue before their committee or their personal background.

“I appreciate the York County Chapter of Credit Unions’ willingness to host area legislators at their meeting,” said Robert Caverly, Vice President of Governmental Affairs. “The casual environment provided legislators an opportunity to share their thoughts on important issues and engage with our credit union members.” If other chapters or credit unions are interested in hosting an event with elected officials, contact League’s Governmental Affairs team who can help with logistics. Having more of these types of interactions with legislators will enhance our advocacy effort and benefit our movement.
