YPN Is Here – it’s time to spread the word!

As you may have heard, the Young Professionals Network (YPN) for Maine credit union employees and volunteers is currently forming and welcomes new members! What you may not know is this is a national trend—getting young staff members on board with the credit union movement. To help reinforce this idea with credit union management around the state, James Marshall of the Cooperative Trust shared his thoughts last week in the webinar, Engaging Young Credit Union Employees, which focused on his experience attracting and retaining young staff at CUs across the country.

Marshall reports that although young people today are more concerned with student debt than any previous generation—student debt is now second only to mortgages in debt rankings—Gen Y’s do not want to be stuck in a job they dislike or feel disengaged from. He suggests for CUs to create an environment that encourages growth, mentorship, and a sense of worth is place Gen Y will stick with.

The Network will help to boost engagement with young staff by offering networking events, educational opportunities, and chances to volunteer. Make sure employees at your credit union between the ages of 21-to-40 are aware of this exciting opportunity! Spread the word and find out more here.

The Network is also hosting meet-ups in in Portland, Auburn, and Bangor for members and potential members to learn more and hear from guest speakers. Click the links below to find out more about each meet up:
