Small CU CUNA GAC scholarship contest could get a small Maine CU a trip to D.C.

For credit unions in Maine with less than $100 million in assets, the Credit Union National Association (CUNA), in cooperation with state leagues including your League, is giving small credit unions an opportunity to win one of two full scholarships to the 2018 CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC) in Washington, D.C.  The 2018 Conference will be held February 26 - March 1.  The scholarship contest starts Monday, December 18, and will run through January 19, 2018.

"We recognize that for credit unions with less than $100 million in assets, the cost of attending GAC can be significant and, in some cases, prohibitive.  We have long discussed ways in which we could get more small CUs an opportunity to attend and help with expenses.  The League is pleased that CUNA has created this contest as a way to help.  I hope those CUs in Maine that are eligible will enter," remarked Elise Baldacci, Vice President of Governmental Affairs for the Maine CU League.

The contest is open to CUNA members below $100 million in assets, and participants can earn entries into the drawings for the scholarships--which include airfare, lodging up to four nights, registration and incidentals--by participating in the CUNA Small Credit Union Community, an online networking and small credit union resource platform.

To receive an entry into the drawings, a user must:

Sign up for a "Daily Digest" or "Real Time" email subscription to the Small Credit Union Community; and

Post at least one question or response in the Discussion. Additional posts will earn additional entries.

The contest starts Monday, December 18, and will run through Jan. 19, 2018. Winners will be drawn and announced on the Community on Jan. 29, 2018.

"The contest helps us strengthen our connection to small credit unions," Tom Sakash, CUNA small credit union advisor, told your League. "First, it generates engagement with the Community--a free member resource that easily allows small credit unions to network and share information and strategies without ever leaving their offices. And second, it brings more small credit union voices to GAC."

Winners will also be recognized at the CUNA Small Credit Union Roundtable at GAC, set for 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., on Sunday, Feb. 25.

The roundtable is also sponsored by CUNA Mutual Group.

"Small credit unions are an important part of the American financial landscape and the credit union movement," said Rob Purtell, vice president of sales for CUNA Mutual Group. "We value small credit unions, and we're proud to sponsor this GAC contest."
