PeoplesChoice CU Is Charging to End Hunger

PeoplesChoice CU is charging its way toward ending hunger! The credit union just launched a new fundraising initiative that helps the environment while also benefiting Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger.

Electric vehicle chargers have been installed at four PeoplesChoice CU locations in southern Maine and are available for the public to use 24/7 (providing the wi-fi connection is working). 100% of the proceeds generated from the charges will be directed to the Campaign. The credit union had its first member use one of the new charging stations this past Tuesday.

“We saw a great opportunity to provide a service to the surrounding communities,” explained Luke Labbe, President at PeoplesChoice CU. “Not just with the charging stations, but the proceeds themselves going right back to work, feeding the people of Maine.”

The charging stations, which are Enel X JuicePedestal units, come with a flexible payment system that allows drivers the option to pay either via their mobile device or the credit card terminal. By working with its vendor, PeoplesChoice CU has been able to establish a fair price that covers delivery costs while still being able to donate to the Campaign.

The Charging to End Hunger program will pair with upcoming green loan products, such as solar and green vehicles, and is a key component of the credit union’s effort to be environmentally conscious and reduce its carbon footprint. With each charge, PeoplesChoice CU will assist the community with their cleaner and greener initiatives through something they would need to do anyways—all while simultaneously helping to feed their hungry neighbors.

The chargers are compatible with all electrical vehicles manufactured for the North America market. Tesla vehicles can be charged when using the Tesla to J1772 adapter by Tesla.

The chargers are set up to do most of the work, creating a smooth process for drivers needing to charge their cars. If you or someone you know with an electric vehicle needs a charge, tell them to head to PeoplesChoice CU.
