Over $91,000 Raised in June to End Hunger in Maine

Credit unions, their members, and the League came together during National Hunger Awareness Month to raise critical funds to support Good Shepherd Food Bank, community food pantries, and meal sites across Maine. This year’s effort engaged more credit unions than ever before and in just 30 days, $91,452 was raised to combat hunger as part of the $100,000 Ending Hunger Challenge.

“While we were just shy of our goal, I’m incredibly proud of the contributions credit unions made during our Challenge month,” shared Jen Burke, League AVP – Communications & Outreach. “What we accomplished in 30 days is nothing short of outstanding, and we did it with broader participation across Maine’s credit union movement. That’s a fantastic milestone in itself.”

As part of the initiative, 25% of the funds raised online during the Challenge will directly benefit Good Shepherd Food Bank. Collectively, the Food Bank will receive $42,429.81 from this effort.

“Our League would like to express our deep appreciation to everyone who made a donation and/or challenged someone to get involved,” added Burke. “From social media promotion to credit union fundraisers and donation matches, there was a wide array of support and collaboration. There is no better example of People Helping People than our $100,000 Ending Hunger Challenge. This fundraiser, and future efforts coordinated on behalf of the Campaign, will continue making a meaningful difference in the communities we serve.”
