Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger $100,000 Challenge has received support from credit unions, employees, members, and volunteers statewide—and it’s not too late to add your name to the list of Challenge Contributors if you’d like to help expand the Challenge’s impact! With just one week remaining in this important initiative, we are hopeful this year will be our biggest year yet.
The Challenge provides critical funding to hunger relief organizations across Maine—funding that is needed all the time, but especially now. In the midst of the federal government shutdown, programs like SNAP that provide essential aid to individuals and families in need are halting. Unfortunately, this will only increase the number of people food pantries serve every week, and these organizations are already struggling to maintain a sufficient supply of healthy and nutritious food due to demand.
We are grateful for the love the Challenge has seen thus far. Whether your credit union has donated, spread awareness about hunger, shared the Challenge with your communities, or coordinated a fundraiser in support of our shared mission to end hunger, all efforts make a difference.
If you have run or will be running a fundraiser in the month of October for the Campaign, please be sure to share the outcome of your event with Jen Burke, Vice President of Outreach & Strategic Initiatives, and Lauren Simonds, Director of Communications & Social Impact. This allows your success to be included in the Challenge’s totals but still allows your credit union to determine where you would like those funds to be distributed.
Let’s see what we can collectively accomplish for our hungry neighbors by the end of next week!
