Maine's Members Of Congress Get Committee Assignments

With the convening of the first session of the 114th Congress earlier this month, Maine's four elected members have begun new, two-year Committee terms.

The state's newest member of Congress, Congressman Bruce Poliquin (R), who was elected to his first term in November, has been appointed to serve on the House Financial Services Committee, a Committee of key interest and importance to credit unions.  The other member of the House, Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D), who is beginning her fourth term, is once again serving on the House Appropriations Committee, another key House Committee.  In the Senate, Maine's Senior Senator, Senator Susan Collins (R), who was re-elected to her fourth term in November, has been named Chair of the Special Committee on Aging, which handles a variety of issues including elder financial exploitation, and the Chair of the Appropriations Committee's Subcommittee on Transporation, Housing and Urban Development.  Senator Collins is also serving as a member of the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, and the Intelligence Committee.  Senator Angus King (I) is serving on four Senate Committees including: Intelligence Committee; Armed Services Comittee; Senate Rules and Administration Committee; and Budget Committee.

Your League's President John Murphy said all of the committees have "significant roles and, directly or indirectly, impact Maine's credit unions and citizens.  We look forward to working with our entire Delegation over the next two years, and are in regular communications and dialogue with each member and their staff."
