Mainebiz features CU perspective for article on financial services outlook in 2018

In the recent issue of Mainebiz, the leading business publication in Maine, the publication interviewed four executives to get a short-term outlook for their Maine-based businesses and industries: construction, banking, seafood and manufacturing.  The League's strong relationships with media across Maine, and continued outreach efforts helped to facilitate having it be a credit union leader that provided perspective on the financial services sector.

"With nearly 700,000 members statewide, Maine credit unions have a significant and growing role in Maine's economy and the financial well-being of consumers.  We appreciate Mainebiz recognizing the connection that credit unions have to communities across Maine, and featuring a CU leader for this article," observed Todd Mason, President of the Maine CU League.

Seeking to provide perspective from more rural areas that face some adversity, Tina Jamo, President/CEO of Katahdin FCU, was chosen to provide her perspective on the financial services industry in her area.  "It's an exciting time to be in the Katahdin region," an enthusiastic Jamo told Mainebiz, adding that she is encouraged by "a renewed enthusiasm and investment" in the region.  In the article, she also highlighted the correlation between the credit union's success and that of its members, saying, "When our members are doing well, we do well. And when our economy improves, our whole membership benefits.  Our goal is to continue to grow our membership and to continue to serve our members in the best way possible," she says. "We've been concentrating on electronic services due to the fact that we are located in a rural area. The plan is to continue to offer products and services to our members who don't necessarily live here."

Jon Paradise, Vice President of Public Affairs and Engagement for the Maine Credit Union League, said that he and Mason have met with several reporters from business publications recently, and are "focused on looking for and pursuing opportunities to have credit unions highlighted as much as possible.  From products to perspectives, Maine credit unions have a great story to share, and we are committed to utilizing our media relationships to help share them."
