Maine CUs share expertise on financial goals on Statewide Radio Show

On Tuesday, March 13, with most of the state hunkered down indoors as a blizzard was happening outside, the popular weekday radio show, Maine Calling, which airs on Maine Public Radio was on the air, as usual.  With listenership likely even higher than usual, the timing of having a show that happened to include a representative from Maine's credit unions couldn't have been better.  Joann Bisson, President/CEO of Trademark FCU, provided insight and perspective on finances, including managing debt and achieving financial goals, as part of a show focused on taxes and personal finances that also included a tax expert.

Jon Paradise, Vice President of Public Affairs and Engagement at the Maine Credit Union League, said, "These types of opportunities that focus on helping consumers, and highlight the expertise and knowledge that credit unions can offer reflect positively on the Maine CU System.  Joann did a really nice job of discussing finance issues, and offering tips to help consumers with their personal finances."

Throughout the show, Bisson discussed ways that consumers can manage their finances and "encouraged listeners to use tax time as a way to get started thinking long-term about budgeting and getting your finances in order."  She also offered tips on how to pay off debit, and some of the benefits that refinancing can offer.

"It was a great opportunity to discuss some of the products and services that credit unions offer, as well as reinforce the strong focus and commitment that credit unions have on financial education assistance for our members.  Credit unions have a long history of helping their members with personal finances, and this show certainly highlighted that.  It's great that the League can facilitate this type of opportunities to feature credit unions," Bisson explained.
