Maine CUs registering to attend 2018 CUNA GAC in strong numbers

From all accounts, 2017 saw a number of legislative wins for credit unions in Washington, D.C., including the preservation of the CU-tax exemption, a final small dollar loan rule that addressed many of the concerns of credit unions, the delay of the HMDA rule, the early closure of the Temporary Corporate Credit Union Stabilization Fund, and other rule and legislative changes sought by credit unions.  The participation of credit unions in advocacy, through emails, attendance and involvement, all played a key role in the success of 2017.  However, 2018 brings new challenges and opportunities for credit unions in Congress and with regulatory issues, so the importance of remaining actively-engaged in the process is essential.  With registration for Maine CUs attending the 2018 CUNA GAC already approaching 90, all indications are that Maine CUs recognize the importance of staying involved.

"The response of Maine CUs to our calls for continued involvement in the legislative and political process indicates that our credit union leaders are listening.  It's great to see such strong registration numbers with the GAC still nearly two months away.  We are hopeful that additional CUs will register, and push our total participation to at or near 100, which sends a strong message to our Congressional Delegation as to the importance the League and our CUs place on political involvement," remarked Todd Mason, President of the Maine CU League.

The 2018 CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference takes place February 25-March 1, at the Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.  Once again, the League will be hosting a Breakfast for Maine's Congressional Delegation on Capitol Hill in conjunction with the Conference, and all four members of the Delegation are expected to attend and address the Maine group.
