Maine CU Financial Literacy Council Workshop

The Maine CU Financial Literacy Council is holding its first workshop of 2015 on Thursday, January 15, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., at the CU Service Center in Westbrook.  The session is titled, "How Free Tax Preparation Can Be Good For Members, Good For The Community and Good For CUs."  This session will highlight how credit unions can offer and/or participate in the free tax preparation program (VITA), and how this program can be good for members, good for the community and good for credit unions. Attendees will hear from the IRS on how the program works, as well as credit unions who have been actively involved in this program.

Two credit union representatives, Kelsey Gillespie of Casco FCU and Janet Franz of Penobscot County FCU, will share their involvement with the VITA program, and the positive impact and feedback that they have received and witnessed by participating in the program.  Tess Armstrong of the IRS will also speak about the resources, materials and opportunities available through the IRS to help facilitate this program.

The workshop is free to members of the Maine CU Financial Literacy Council, and $20 per person to non-members.  Register by clicking here; via email; or call Lauren Reeves at 800.442.6715, ext. 353.
