While the Legislature was not in session since it was sworn in last month, legislative leaders were busy finalizing the Committees that will play an important role in the legislative process this session.  One of the Committees that your League and credit union issues come before frequently, the Insurance and Financial Services (IFS) Committee, has two credit union volunteers serving on it.  Rep. Ray Wallace (R), who serves on the Supervisory Committee at Maine Highlands FCU, was named the lead House Republican on the Committee, and Rep. John Picchiotti (R), Board Chair at KSW FCU, was also named as a member of the Committee.

"To have two individuals with such a strong first-hand understanding of the impact that certain legislation would have on credit unions and financial services is certainly an asset.  Both Reps. Wallace and Picchiotti are active participants at their credit unions and have been supportive of our issues in the past.  We look forward to working with them, and having them on one of our key Committees during the next two years," remarked your League's President John Murphy.  Additionally, the Senate and House Chairs of the IFS Committee, Senator Rodney Whittemore (R), and Rep. Henry Beck (D), also have been good friends of credit unions over the years, and both were endorsed by your League in the 2014 elections.

The other two Committees that your League is most actively involved with during the session are the Judiciary and Transportation Committees.  Once again, the Senate and House Chairs of both Committees, Senator David Burns (R) and Rep. Barry Hobbins (D) for Judicary, and Senator Ronald Collins (R) and Rep. Andrew McLean (D) for Transportation, were endorsed by your League, and have a record of supporting credit unions and our issues.
