League endorsed candidate wins primary race

This past Tuesday, Rep. Heather Sanborn, who was endorsed by your League, was victorious in her Democratic primary race and will now face off in the general election this fall.

Rep. Sanborn, is a former credit union board member, having served on the Board of University CU.  She is also a small business owner, as she and her husband own Rising Tide Brewing Company.  She defeated long-time Portland City Councilor Jill Duson in the Democratic primary.

“During her time in the Maine House, Rep. Sanborn was a strong advocate for us to go to on credit union issues, and her understanding and experience as a former CU Board member certainly helped her to speak on our issues in committee and in the House.  We look forward to supporting her in the general election this fall, as she will be a great friend of CUs in the Senate,” remarked Elise Baldacci, Vice President of Governmental Affairs for the Maine Credit Union League.

In the general election, Rep. Sanborn is opposed by Patrick Martin in the race for Senate District 28, which includes part of Portland and Westbrook.  The seat was previously held by Mark Dion, who is term limited from seeking another term.
