On January 2, in front of a full auditorium at the Augusta Civic Center, Janet Mills was sworn in as Maine’s Governor.  Mills, a Democrat from Farmington, is the first female to be elected to Maine’s highest office.

In the weeks leading up to the inauguration, Governor Mills filled several important cabinet positions to help her manage state government and execute her policy agenda.  Incoming commissioners include:

  • Heather Johnson, Department of Economic and Community Development
  • Pender Makin, Department of Education
  • Laura Fortman, Department of Labor
  • Bruce Van Note, Maine Department of Transportation
  • Judy Camuso, Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife
