History in the making? Olympian who made history will be part of 2017 EH Results Luncheon

Will 2017's EH total surpass 2016's record-setting total of $675,000?  With the 2017 EH Results Luncheon now less than two weeks away, excitement is building to find out if 2017 will be an historic year for the Campaign.  The event will be held on Tuesday, February 6, at the Double Tree Hotel in South Portland.  On hand to help make the announcement will be Devon Harris, who made history himself as a member of the first-ever Jamaican Bobsled team, which competed in the 1988 Winter Olympics.  Harris and his teammates were the inspiration behind the blockbuster Disney movie, Cool Runnings.  Today, Harris is an advocate to help children including supporting childhood hunger initiatives in elementary schools.

"Since he's coming two days before the start of the 2018 Winter Olympics, his appearance is timely, indeed.  Even more to the point is the fact that he is passionate and involved in helping children through his 'Keep On Pushing' foundation.  One of the ways he helps is by supporting programs in school that provide food to kids.  We, of course, are very involved in similar efforts in Maine, and are one of the leading supporters of the school backpack and pantry programs," stated Jon Paradise, Vice President of Public Affairs and Engagement for the Maine CU League.

Joann Bisson, Chair of the League's Social Responsibility Committee, said she is looking forward to hearing Harris' message and celebrating the efforts of so many credit union staff members who "work hard to raise funds for ending hunger.  They are a big reason why the Campaign has grown year after year, and we look forward to sharing the final amount from the 2017 Campaign."
