Going Virtual! Maine State CU’s Feed ME 5k Walk to End Hunger

With social distancing in mind, Maine State CU’s annual Feed ME 5k Walk to End Hunger, is going virtual. That means, walkers from all corners of the state can participate in their local communities to help end hunger in Maine.

“This year, we have decided to change our annual walk to a virtual one,” said Mark Young, COO of Maine State CU. “We did not want to cancel this popular event, but instead allow our members, community partners, and hunger organizations to still participate and fundraise for this important cause.”

Registration is easy. Visit https://runsignup.com/Race/ME/Augusta/FeedMe5K. Children are welcome to participate in this family-friendly event and can register at the reduced rate of $10 if they are between the ages of 5 – 12. There is no charge for walkers ages 4 and under. Participants can complete the 5k anytime between April 25 – May 31, 2020.

Maine State CU has been hosting this event for fifteen years, and holding it at Capitol Park in Augusta for the past ten years. The event serves as the credit union’s largest fundraiser of Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger and directly benefits several local hunger-based nonprofits.

“The walk is the only way that some of the smaller hunger organizations have a chance to fundraise for the entire year,” said Stacey Dow, Maine State CU’s Social Responsibility Committee Co-Chair. “We wanted to make sure in light of everything going on, they still have a platform to raise money for their organizations”

All participants who raise $25 or more will receive a commemorative t-shirt. For more information about the event, visit Maine State CU’s website.
