Former U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman to Headline the League’s Virtual 2020 Legislative Forum

With important state and federal elections on the horizon, the League is pleased to announce that the Honorable Joe Lieberman will headline this year’s Legislative Forum, taking place online on October 14 from 9:30 am – 12:15 pm. Senator Lieberman will offer his unique perspective on the 2020 election, the current state of political affairs, and his tenure in office. He also will take questions from forum participants.

“Our League is pleased to host Senator Lieberman at this year’s Legislative Forum,” said Robert Caverly, League Vice President of Governmental Affairs. “The upcoming election is one of the most significant elections of a lifetime and it will be great to hear from such an influential and respected statesman about its impact on our country. While I wish we could be holding our forum in person, I’m grateful we can still convene a meaningful and timely discussion before November.”

Following Senator Lieberman’s keynote and Q&A session, state Senator Jim Hamper (R) and state Representative Drew Gattine (D) will lead a discussion focusing on the state’s budget cycle. Both legislators served on the Legislature’s prestigious Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee. They will share their experiences with guiding the Legislature through multiple budget agreements and present their thoughts on how the pandemic will impact the next biennial budget.

“Senator Hamper and Representative Gattine have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to preparing, considering and negotiating a complex state budget,” said Caverly. “With the economy on everyone’s mind, this legislative panel will surely be insightful.”

The event will conclude with CULAC awards and a raffle drawing.

To attend the 2020 Legislative Forum, register before October 14 on the League’s website or by contacting the League’s Member Services team at 1-800-442-6715. The conference fee is $149 for the first credit union registrant, $99 for each additional attendee.
