Brenda Davis, one of the state’s leading Ending Hunger advocates, has been traveling the state for three weeks, dating back to the tour’s official kick-off on October 25. Partnering with Maine’s Credit Unions, Davis’ goal is to walk from community to community, raising awareness about food insecurity in Maine. As the third full week comes to a close, the positive impact is being felt at credit unions, area food pantries, and beyond.
“Brenda’s mission is both incredibly important and appreciated,” stated Jake Holmes, Financial Literacy Outreach Coordinator for the Maine Credit Union League. “Not only is she partnering with Maine’s Credit Unions to help those in need, but she is doing so with an increased focus on awareness. She wants to make sure the communities she visits understand that hunger is a serious issue – an issue that we can all come together to help remedy.”
By the end of this year’s tour, Davis will have visited 90 communities, with the Maine CUs’ Campaign for Ending Hunger making a contribution to a food pantry in each community she visits. Brenda will on the road the week of Thanksgiving, visiting credit unions and pantries Monday-Wednesday.
Nearly $30,000 will be contributed to the Ending Hunger Campaign by the time Davis reaches Hampden on November 27, the final day of the tour. Since 1990, The Maine CUs’ Campaign for Ending Hunger has raised $8 million to help end hunger in Maine, including a record-setting $740,000 in 2017.
