Ending Hunger: Help Fund 75,000 Meals

The League has set a goal of funding up to 75,000 meals for food-insecure Mainers between now and December 31. To accomplish this, Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger will need to raise $25,000 over the next seven weeks. This will require a statewide effort, and we need your help!

Many would agree 2020 can’t end soon enough. Over the past eight months, Mainers have faced incredible hardships. Isolation from loved ones, health challenges, job losses—these are just some of the circumstances that have made a difficult year even worse for our neighbors.

As the holiday season approaches, purse strings will be pulled tighter, making it harder for many individuals and families to put meals on the table. The League recognizes we can’t eliminate hunger in Maine in seven weeks, but Maine’s credit unions can come together to help feed as many people as possible during the holidays.

What You Can Do

The League will be making a targeted push to promote the Campaign for Ending Hunger through statewide awareness advertising. We encourage you to amplify these efforts in your branches and online. We’ve created digital assets you can use and have developed a list of fundraising ideas to help your credit union raise dollars—money that will stay in your community to support organizations you choose. You can find all of these materials here:  https://mainecul.org/community-outreach/campaign-ending-hunger/holiday-fundraising-guide (login required).

We understand it has been a difficult year to raise money, but we hope the spirit of the holiday season will inspire credit union employees, volunteers, members, and vendors to once again open their hearts and wallets in support of the Campaign. Shortly after the pandemic began, our Campaign raised over $230,000 to help Good Shepherd Food Bank, community food pantries, schools, and meal sites meet the increased demand for food assistance. Maine credit unions stepped up in a big way then, and we hope you will step up again now.

Let’s give it everything we can between now and the end of 2020! Together, we can end the year strong and ensure people in our communities have access to healthy, nutritious meals.
