CU Officials, Legislators connect at Maine CU Day at the State House

Despite a snowy week, the skies cleared long enough for CU officials from across the state to gather in Augusta as part of Maine CU Day at the State House.  This year’s event, held on Thursday, March 15, featured several changes including extended hours, tours of the State House, and more opportunity for attendees to watch the House and Senate in action.  “We received positive feedback on the new format of CU Day, and the best part was that holding the event for the entire morning allowed more CU officials and legislators to connect.  The personal interactions between CUs and legislators are what make this event so valuable,” said Elise Baldacci, Vice President of Governmental Affairs for the Maine CU League.

Representatives from nearly 30 credit unions were able to attend, despite some snow continuing in the northern part of the state.  “With the inclement weather we’ve had over the past couple of weeks, we were fortunate to get our event in.  We appreciate everyone taking time to attend,” added Baldacci.

In addition to multiple conversations and discussions between CU officials and legislators on a range of issues, including the economy, CU priorities, and local issues, the event also included a Legislative Sentiment from the Maine House and Senate recognizing the “significant role of Maine’s credit unions in the lives of the nearly 700,000 credit union members in Maine.”  Representative John Picchiotti, who serves as Board Chair of KSW FCU, presented the Sentiment to Todd Mason, President of the Maine CU League, who accepted it on behalf of Maine’s credit unions.
