CU News & Events – September Edition


Autumn has swept in and our credit unions welcomed the new season by serving both their members and their communities in fun and exciting ways. From fundraisers to community service, employees were inspired by the changing of the seasons.

Here is a brief snapshot highlighting some of the activities our credit unions were up to September:

  • Acadia FCU participated in Fort Kent’s 2021 Scarecrow Festival by giving back to the Campaign for Ending Hunger. Their festival display featured nonperishable food items that will be donated to a local food pantry.
  • Atlantic FCU announced that they will donate $50 to the Campaign for Ending Hunger for every auto loan opened in September.
  • Bangor FCU announced it will be opening a new Ellsworth branch later this fall.
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield of Maine Employees FCU and TruChoice FCU announced their intent to merge, subject to NCUA and member approval.
  • Capital Area FCU celebrated the beginning of the fall season by selling decorative gourds and donating the proceeds to Special Olympics Maine.
  • On September 10, Casco FCU hosted a barbecue at its Gorham branch to celebrate Member Appreciation Day.
  • In honor of National Food Bank Day, Changing Seasons FCU encouraged their members to volunteer or donate to the Hampden Neighborhood Food Cupboard.
  • Community CU supported the Campaign for Ending Hunger all month long through events that allowed members to name their donation amount and win pumpkins, flower arrangements, and more.
  • The team at Connected CU participated in Northern Light Inland Hospital’s Walk in My Shoes 5K on September 11 to support their patient relief fund.
  • cPort CU continued its sponsorship of Maine Public News CONNECT, a pilot program by Maine Public that delivers the news in the four most common languages after English.
  • Cumberland County FCU celebrated the ten-year work anniversaries of both Jenn and Brandi in September. Congratulations!
  • Dirigo FCU volunteered with United Way of Androscoggin County.
  • Downeast CU collected pet food donations for their local humane societies.
  • Evergreen CU continued to show support for local community organizations by providing resources about these organizations on their website, as well as a place for organizations to apply for a community support contribution.
  • For their third quarter charity, Five County CU allocated their funds directly to the youth and teen programs that specialize in mental health and suicide prevention for Maine youth.
  • In their summer newsletter, Franklin-Somerset FCU shared tips for preventing scams with their members.
  • Gardiner FCU sold t-shirts in support of breast cancer awareness and donated the proceeds to the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care.
  • With funds raised during their Spirit Week in August, Infinity CU presented a check to Operation HOPE Maine at the Scarborough Police Department.
  • Katahdin FCU hosted their Ending Hunger Golf Tournament at Hillcrest Golf Course in Millinocket, raising close to $10,000!
  • KSW FCU launched their new online mobile banking system on September 14.
  • KV FCU took time to recognize employee Amy Saban. She has been a devoted part of the KV FCU team for 21 years! Congratulations on your anniversary, Amy!
  • Lewiston Municipal FCU announced it will be offering member giveaways during Credit Union Week in October. Members should stay tuned for more information!
  • Lincoln Maine FCU took some time to share member love for the credit union’s employees on social media. Great service never goes unnoticed!
  • Lisbon Community FCU held their Member Appreciation Day on September 17. They handed out member gifts, whoopie pies, insulated grocery bags, and held hourly cash drawings.
  • Maine Family FCU kept members and employees updated at their virtual annual meeting on September 21.
  • In their fall newsletter, Maine Highlands FCU highlighted the recent success of its K9 Ballistic Vest Fundraiser. The funds raised will help these canines stay safe when they are on the job.
  • Maine Savings FCU shared information on their blog about various scams their members should be aware of, including smishing (SMS phishing) scams, utility scams, grandparent scams, and AARP imposter scams.
  • Maine State CU employees participated in the Dempsey Challenge and raised over $2,400 to support the fundraiser.
  • Midcoast FCU also encouraged their members to get involved in National Food Pantry Day.
  • As part of Monmouth FCU’s youth program and back-to-school promotion, one lucky member won a Kid’s Edition Kindle. Congratulations, Wyatt!
  • New Dimensions FCU partnered with Bacon Farm Maple Products (BFMP) to offer ice cream punch cards. When someone with a punch card reaches 10 ice cream cones, they get their 11th cone free and BFMP will donate $5 to the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • NorState FCU celebrated 80 years of serving Aroostook and Northern Penobscot County. Happy anniversary, NorState!
  • Northeast CU employees volunteered and took part in the 13th Annual Celebrate Pink 5K on September 19 to support My Breast Cancer Support, a local nonprofit providing support to patients within the community.
  • OTIS FCU helped local school districts return to in-person learning by donating 1,700 water bottles for students.
  • Oxford FCU supported the Backpack Project organized by United Way of Androscoggin County.
  • PeoplesChoice CU informed members about some exciting changes that are coming to the credit union’s digital banking platform in October!
  • Sabattus Regional CU collected donations for Blessed Be the Bullies, a Lewiston-based, non-profit that rescues dogs and cats of all ages.
  • Saco Valley CU sponsored A Running Passion’s annual Will to Run Challenge 5k. The event was held virtually from September 17-24.
  • Seaboard FCU motivated parents to open a youth savings account for their kids with their Zoe’s Club program. Zoe’s Club is designed to teach the importance of financial literacy to youth members.
  • Sebasticook Valley FCU celebrated its 68th year in business on September 8. Happy anniversary, Sebasticook Valley!
  • Every Friday in September, Town & Country FCU randomly selected a nominated teacher from Cumberland or York County to win a $100 Visa gift card to help offset the costs of going back to school.
  • Trademark FCU hosted a block party in South Portland to celebrate the one-year anniversary of its newest branch.
  • On September 18, TruChoice FCU employees, known as the TruChoice Trekkers, supported the Maine Children’s Cancer Program’s Annual Walk.
  • University CU continued to raise money for the Campaign for Ending Hunger through their Sack Hunger with Maine Football movement. For every Black Bears sack, UCU promised to donate $50 to the Black Bear Exchange, UMaine’s campus food pantry. Go Bears!
