CU News & Events – April Edition


Between CU Youth Month activities, Easter fun, and annual meetings, Maine’s credit unions showered their communities with love in April! Below, our League provides a snapshot of what some of our credit unions were up to last month.

  • Acadia FCU held a free Easter Eggstravaganza on April 1 at the KC Hall in Fort Kent. They welcomed kids to join in on themed activities and a chance to win an Easter basket full of goodies.
  • Quite a few staff members from Atlantic FCU assisted at the Mt. Ararat High School Financial Fitness Fair on April 26, excited to teach eager students about financial literacy.
  • Bangor FCU presented a $2,000 donation to the Hampden Neighborhood Food Cupboard to help them continue their fight against food insecurity in the community.
  • The Annual Meeting for Brewer FCU took place at the Penobscot County Conservation Association in Brewer. They congratulated their 2023 Board of Directors, which includes Donald Brown, Chair; Robert Bastey, Vice Chair; Carol McLaughlin, Secretary; David Libby, Treasurer; Anthony Campbell, Director; Courtney Chute, Director; and William M. Mangum III, Director.
  • Capital Area FCU began collecting donations for their annual yard sale that will take place June 3. They accept household items, dishes, knickknacks, furniture, and other goods in hopes of raising as much money as possible for Special Olympics Maine.
  • On April 23, Team Casco FCU helped with Gorham Cleanup Day, making the community a cleaner and happier place to be.
  • Changing Seasons FCU started gathering nonperishable food items from the community to help the United States Post Office with their Stamp Out Hunger campaign. Donations will be accepted through May 12 at 10:00 am.
  • Coast Line CU’s Annual Meeting occurred on April 22 at the credit union’s location in South Portland.
  • April 15 brought Community CU’s Community Recycle Day 2023 Drive-Thru Event in Auburn in celebration of Earth Day. Community CU staff was joined by volunteers from SHAREcenter, Kommunity Kritters, and Kaydenz Kitchen Food Pantry.
  • In response to CU Youth Month, Connected CU shared helpful tips with members on social media about teaching financial responsibility to kids.
  • cPort CU gave away tickets to six April Portland Sea Dogs games to lucky members.
  • Cumberland County FCU held a free homebuyer seminar on Saturday, April 15.
  • Branches of Dirigo FCU handed out branded piggy banks to children for CU Youth Month, teaching them to “set their sights on savings.”
  • Staff at Downeast CU celebrated Team Member Appreciation Day towards the end of the month. Everyone received a branded long-sleeved tee and a folding camp chair to use when enjoying the warmer weather.
  • In their spring newsletter, Eastmill FCU invited members to attend their upcoming Annual Meeting on May 5.
  • Evergreen CU featured the Maine Celtics, Portland Food Map, Scarborough Land Trust, Presumpscot Regional Land Trust, and the Travis Mills Foundation on social media in their Community Partner Spotlight.
  • Five County CU provided face painting and balloon twisting at the Easter Event at Pathway Vineyard Lewiston in early April.
  • On their website, Franklin-Somerset FCU shared the latest tips for avoiding common scams in 2023, with topics ranging from student loan forgiveness to payment apps and more.
  • On April 22, a group from Gardiner FCU participated in the Walk to End Hunger 5K. Thanks to member pledges, the team was able to raise over $3,000 for the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Great Falls FCU’s Annual Meeting was held virtually on April 11.
  • On social media, Infinity CU shared tips for saving money (and the planet) in honor of Earth Day on April 22.
  • Katahdin FCU continued with the financial literacy series held at Millinocket Memorial Library. A session was held on wills, estate planning, and trusts. Another session was held on retirement planning.
  • KSW FCU entered youth members that came into the lobby between April 18 and April 21 for a chance to win $10 in Moose Bucks.
  • With the scholarship application deadline approaching on May 5, KV FCU encouraged students to submit their applications sooner rather than later. Three $2,500 scholarships will be awarded.
  • Lincoln Maine FCU’s newest blog post shared fun facts about gardening.
  • Lisbon Community FCU promoted its scholarship program for high school senior members who are heading off to college. The credit union will soon be giving away four $1,000 scholarships.
  • Maine Family FCU encouraged members to bring their children into the Lewiston and Auburn branches during the week of April 24 to celebrate Credit Union Youth Week. Kids could pick up giveaways and enter a drawing for one of five grand prizes!
  • Maine Highlands FCU held its Annual Meeting on April 17 at the Ridge View Community School in Dexter. During the event, the credit union presented donations to more than 20 local food organizations raised in its 2022 Campaign for Ending Hunger fundraising efforts.
  • To close out its Spirit Week, all Maine Savings FCU employees were encouraged to wear green on April 21 to celebrate Earth Day. Their fun theme for the day was May the Forest Be with You.
  • Save the date! Maine Solutions FCU announced it will be holding its Annual Meeting on May 17 at 4:00 pm in the credit union’s lobby.
  • On April 22, Maine State CU hosted its annual FeedME 5K at Capitol Park in Augusta. Thank you to all the walkers and sponsors of this year’s successful fundraising event!
  • Midcoast FCU’s Thomaston team volunteered their time picking up trash on the South End Beach Board Walk.
  • Milestones FCU shared on its website that it is seeking volunteers for its Board of Directors and Supervisory Audit Committee. Please let the credit union know if you would like to volunteer your time and talent.
  • To celebrate Credit Union Youth Month, New Dimensions FCU held a youth trivia contest every Friday on its Facebook page. Winners received a credit union swag bag and were entered for a chance to win a $50 Visa gift card.
  • NorState FCU celebrated the promotion of Elaine Clavette to Credit Management Supervisor. Elaine has been a part of the NorState FCU family for almost 12 years. Congratulations, Elaine!
  • Northeast CU announced it is serving as a Gold Sponsor for the 3rd Annual Seeds of Hope HERO 5K, taking place virtually in June. Seeds of Hope partners with local communities and neighbors in York County to find solutions to poverty.
  • To celebrate Easter, OTIS FCU held an egg hunt for local families. Children even had an opportunity to take a photo with the Easter Bunny who stopped by the special event.
  • Lisa, Karissa, and Emily from Oxford FCU’s team spent time with Telstar High School’s JMG students sharing financial basics and answering questions. What a great way to celebrate Credit Union Youth Month!
  • Penobscot County FCU sold candy bars at their branches to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Due to PeoplesChoice CU’s fundraising success last year on behalf of the Campaign for Ending Hunger, it mailed checks to four school districts and 16 food pantries in Southern Maine to help feed their neighbors in need. Nice work, PeoplesChoice CU!
  • Sabattus Regional CU participated in the Community Resource Fair on April 30 at Oak Hill Middle School in Sabattus.
  • Saco Valley CU accepted applications through April 30 for its 2023 scholarship program. Winners will be announced in June—stay tuned!
  • To celebrate Credit Union Youth Month, Seaboard FCU held a coloring contest for a chance to win $25 and some Zoe’s Club gear.
  • To help protect their members from fraud, Sebasticook Valley FCU shared a Scam Alert on its social media channels.
  • The County FCU celebrated its Young Professionals’ Institute graduates. Congratulations, Danae Churchill and Alex Forbes, for your commitment to hard work and professional growth!
  • Town & Country FCU partnered with Portland Trails to present Earth Week 2023. The week-long event featured different earth-friendly activities happening each day across the community to celebrate the earth, the trails, and sustainability.
  • Trademark FCU collected items for victims of domestic violence. Goods collected included socks, toiletries, linens, and more.
  • TruChoice FCU began promoting its scholarship program for graduating high school seniors. Applications are due May 31!
  • Cory and Trevor, Mortgage Loan Originators at University CU, participated in a first-time home buyer course in South Portland and taught the lending portions of the class.
  • Winthrop Area FCU participated in Maine State CU’s FeedME 5K and raised over $1,850 for local food pantries.
