Credit Unions Honored for Volunteerism at Ending Hunger Luncheon

Maine credit unions are deeply devoted to the People Helping People philosophy, and it is demonstrated all year long as credit unions across the state give back to their local communities in meaningful and creative ways. Often, this is shown through donated time.

The League keeps a log of reported volunteer hours through our online CUs Share for ME tracking tool. With the help of this form, the League announced last week that credit unions reported a total of 18,971 hours in volunteer time in 2022. According to the Independent Sector, these efforts are worth approximately $568,181 in donated time.

At the annual Ending Hunger Luncheon on February 15, the League recognized three credit unions by asset size who recorded the most volunteer time last year. Those credit unions are:

  • Gardiner FCU with a total of 1,675 hours of donated time in 2022
  • Midcoast FCU with a total of 3,064 hours of donated time in 2022
  • University CU with a total of 2,860 hours of donated time in 2022

Additionally, the following credit unions reported more than 1,000 hours in volunteer time last year:

  • Atlantic FCU
  • Community CU
  • Five County CU
  • New Dimensions FCU
  • Saco Valley CU

The time given by credit unions to local organizations is just as important as money raised. If your credit union donated any time at all last year, thank you! Your efforts are valued and make an impact.

The League encourages every credit union to complete the CUs Share for ME form on a monthly basis to ensure your hours are logged for the full year. Please email Jake Holmes at jholmes@mainecul.org if you have any questions about the CUs Share for ME program.
