CU News and Events: August Edition


Credit unions maximized all that summer had to offer in August. From branch openings, to fundraisers, to helping schools get ready for students to return, credit unions and their employees remained busy. Here is a look at what some of our credit unions were up to:

  • Acadia FCU purchased a building at 69 Pleasant Street in Fort Kent to expand its operations. With private office space needs at the forefront, Acadia FCU plans to renovate the building in the near future.
  • Atlantic FCU announced the launch of Video Banking by Atlantic. This new service delivers personalized interaction while providing a safe alternative to in-person banking.
  • Bangor Federal reminded members about their free access to GreenPath Financial Wellness’ team of experts. Members of the credit union can set up a free, private one-on-one consultation to help them navigate life’s financial challenges.
  • Brewer FCU treated members to ice cream at their Dirigo Drive branch on August 14.
  • Congrats to Capital Area FCU member Michael Lachance. Michael was the lucky winner of the Maine Special Olympics lobster raffle.
  • Casco FCU is helping with the fight against breast cancer. The credit union is donating a penny to the Breast Cancer Research Fund for every credit union credit card swipe now through October 31.
  • In honor of National Senior Day, Central Maine FCU donated $2,500 to Senior Plus’ Meals on Wheels program. This donation will help feed seniors throughout Lewiston, Auburn, Lisbon, Sabattus, Greene, and Livermore Falls.
  • Changing Season FCU supported Maine Ocean School by selling lobster rolls at their Hampden location.
  • Community CU held a Casual for a Cause week to support local students. Money raised will help the credit union provide area classrooms with the necessary supplies they need when going back to school.
  • Connected CU celebrated summer with a cornhole tournament at their Augusta branch.
  • Gene Ardito, President & CEO at cPort CU, authored an article in the August edition of Amjambo Africa, a publication for the state’s New Mainer community.
  • Cumberland County FCU celebrated the opening of its new Westbrook location. The credit union’s new home is located at 150 Main Street.
  • Melissa Sproul, Dirigo FCU’s Deposits Operations and Call Center Manager, has been recognized by Uplift L.A. as a 2020 Volunteer Honoree. Congratulations, Melissa!
  • Downeast CU announced that Rusti Knights, Baileyville Assistant Branch Manager, received a Certificate of Completion for participating in the Washington County Leadership Institute. Congratulations, Rusti!
  • Evergreen CU raised over $8,100 from their kayak raffle! Donations support the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland, Leaks Environmental Association, and the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Five County CU celebrated several work anniversaries this month. Happy anniversary to Shannon G., Alishia S., Hilary A., Terri R., Viktoria E., Bruce R., Ken S., Robin B., Eira P., Megan T., and Jonathan M.!
  • Franklin-Somerset FCU hosted an outdoors basketmaking class to raise money for the Campaign for Ending Hunger. The credit union also held an employee sock drive to benefit BounceBack, a non-profit which helps individuals after they have been impacted by a fire.
  • As part of its Pay It Forward Mondays, Gardiner FCU is donating $50 Staples gift cards to teachers, classes, and schools nominated through 107.9 The Mix.
  • Infinity FCU provided its Facebook followers an opportunity to nominate a teacher to win an Amazon gift card as part of its Teaching With Heart initiative.
  • KSW FCU supported its community by serving as a sponsor of the Belfast Area Chamber of Commerce’s golf tournament.
  • KV FCU conducted a member survey to better gauge how it can serve its members.
  • Lisbon Community FCU announced that loan clerk Derek Roberts received its 3rd quarter employee Rockstar Award.
  • Maine Family FCU celebrated National Dog Day by awarding one random member $50 for posting a photo of their dog on Facebook.
  • Maine Savings FCU continued raising money to help end hunger in Maine through its successful summer streaming concert series.
  • Congratulations to Maine State CU Lending Officer Deb Sparrow for being selected to serve as Leader Advisor for the Olympia Snowe Women’s Leadership Institute.
  • Midcoast FCU held its 64th annual meeting and financial review. For the first time ever, the credit union held this meeting in a virtual format.
  • Monmouth FCU is serving as a sponsor for the Sexual Assault Crisis and Support Center’s upcoming virtual Kentucky Derby fundraiser. The credit union has been selling raffle tickets for the organization in preparation for the event.
  • New Dimensions FCU is hosting a Labor Day lobster basket raffle. Proceeds from the raffle, which ends soon, will benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger and the Special Olympics.
  • Northeast CU provided ten teachers $100 Visa gift cards to help them fund their classroom expenses.
  • As part of its Random Acts of Kindness initiative, NorState FCU’s Eagle Lake Branch Manager Amy L’Italien delivered cold drinks and popsicles to some local construction workers who were hard at work on August 15.
  • OTIS FCU successfully and safely held its annual yard sale and raised over $2,000 for the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Oxford FCU helped Dirigo Middle School get ready for the school year. The credit union donated 200 water bottles to help students avoid having to use the water fountains during the school year.
  • Penobscot County FCU hosted its annual yard sale with all proceeds going to support the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Congrats to Janet B, PeoplesChoice CU’s Shout Out Award Winner for August! Janet’s colleagues nominated her for her diligence and willingness to help.
  • Sabattus Regional CU welcomed a new teller, Shelby, to their team.
  • The County FCU celebrated Member Appreciation Day at its Fairfield, Caribou, Houlton, and Presque Isle branches by passing out ice cream coupons to their members.
  • Town & Country FCU donated $1,000 to the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland.
  • Trademark FCU launched its new interactive teller machines. To celebrate, Trademark FCU gave away $100 to four lucky members who used the machines.
  • Congratulations to TruChoice FCU members Anya, Daniella, Tanner, and Aisling. These students are recipients of the credit union’s 2020 scholarships.
  • University CU helped eight students continue their education at Maine universities. Each recipient was granted a $1,000 scholarship for the 2020 school year.
