We’re a little over one week into October’s $100,000 Ending Hunger Challenge in support of Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger, and we have made great progress towards our goal! Our League is incredibly grateful for the outpouring of generosity the Campaign has received thus far, and we know these funds will go a long way in our collective fight against food insecurity.
Three weeks from today, our sixth annual Challenge will conclude. With fundraising already underway for this important initiative, there is still a long way to go in fighting hunger. Food banks, pantries, and other hunger relief organizations are struggling to keep up with increased demand for healthy, nutritious food. Due to the current government shutdown, programs are at risk of running out of funding—including WIC, which supports more than six million low-income mothers and children. Unfortunately, hunger will prevail despite the loss of these critical community supports—but that is why our fight continues.
Whether your credit union is coordinating a fundraiser or would like to simply provide a monetary donation to the Campaign, all efforts impact our communities. Please be sure to let Jen Burke, Vice President of Outreach & Strategic Initiatives, and Lauren Simonds, Director of Communications & Social Impact, know how your October fundraisers go so we can include your success in our collective Challenge totals (credit unions will still be able to disburse funds as they choose).
Don’t wait! Add your credit union to our Challenge Contributors page by donating to or fundraising for the Campaign—uplifting our communities and creating a better tomorrow for all. Together, we can make a difference for those in need.
