Congressman Poliquin visits Community CU

Congressman Bruce Poliquin made a visit this past week to Community CU's main office in Lewiston, and was impressed with the recently-completed branch renovation, and particularly pleased that the CU chose to keep its main office in a low-income area of the city.  Elise Baldacci, Vice President of Governmental Affairs for the Maine CU League, said the CU's decision was not lost on Congressman Poliquin.  "He seemed to genuinely appreciate the fact that the CU, which is squarely located in the area that has been identified by the U.S. Census Bureau as the poorest tract in Maine, would continue to provide access to financial services to the area."

During the visit, Baldacci said Congressman Poliquin expressed "how proud he is to have had his first account with a credit union, and of his strong support for credit unions."  The Congressman also talked about small dollar loans and other issues.

Todd Mason, President of the Maine Credit Union League, said, "We appreciate Congressman Poliquin taking the time to visit Community CU, and to spend time with staff.  He has been an important friend to Maine's credit unions in Congress, especially as a strong advocate for our issues in his role as a member of the House Financial Services Committee.  We had a chance to speak with him about S. 2155, and building support for it in the House, where the bill is now being considered.  He recognizes the importance of regulatory relief to credit unions and the positive impact that S. 2155 would have for our credit unions.  We will continue to discuss this bill with the Congressman and his staff as it moves forward."
