Aroostook Chapter Seeks Volunteers for Upcoming Financial Fitness Fair

The Aroostook Chapter of Credit Unions will be hosting their 13th Annual Financial Fitness Fair at the Loring Air Force Base in Limestone on April 28. This fair will provide a money management experience to over 300 Northern Maine high school juniors.

“This Financial Fitness Fair is one the Aroostook Chapter’s signature events,” said Jake Holmes, Financial Literacy Outreach Coordinator for the Maine Credit Union League. “Every high school in Aroostook County is invited to learn meaningful financial skills. On average, over 300 students attend. It’s a learning event, but the chapter keeps it fun, which is why they have such great student participation.”

With so much great participation and numbers, the Aroostook Chapter of Credit Unions is seeking volunteers from other credit unions across the state. If you’re interested in volunteering for the upcoming fair, fill out the volunteer form and return to John Dixon at NorState FCU by March 3.

At the Financial Fitness Fair, participating students will be given a career and monthly income, and then have to visit booths associated with various expenses that the average adult is faced with each month. After filling in a monthly budget form, the goal is for the students to have a monthly budget that does not exceed their monthly income. These efforts have contributed to Maine Credit Unions being an eighteen-time winner of the Desjardins Award for Youth Financial Education, making Maine the most recognized credit union system in the country.

A list of all upcoming fairs can be found here. If your chapter has a Financial Fitness Fair planned that isn’t listed, please contact Jake Holmes.
