New Chairman of Subcommittee on Financial Institutions Supports Cannabis Banking
Representative Andy Barr (R-KY) was chosen to lead the subcommittee previously known as the Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Financial Institutions. As Chairman, Barr’s jurisdiction will extend to oversight of financial regulators, including the NCUA, the CFPB, and the Federal Reserve. In 2019, he added amendments to the SAFE Banking Act that would extend the safe-harbors provided to cannabis businesses to hemp and CBD businesses as well.
Maine State CU Collects Socks for Erskine Academy Student
In less than 48 hours, Maine State CU employees collected nearly 700 pairs of socks to donate to area homeless shelters in memory of Erskine Academy student Rémy Joel Pettengill. Rémy, 17, died unexpectedly earlier this month.
Most Applications Ever Received for Crash the CUNA GAC

Ending Hunger as an Outcome of Financial Education
Last week, the Maine Credit Union League partnered with MaineHealth in offering a financial education workshop at Franklin Memorial Hospital’s food pantry. The event was open to those enrolled in MaineHealth’s Food as Medicine program, which supports individuals with one or more chronic health conditions who have limited access to healthy food.
