12th Annual Free Turkey Giveaway Provides 200 Holiday Meals
On Tuesday, November 26, Hot Radio Maine put on their 12th Annual Free Turkey Giveaway at the Wells Super Food Market IGA—and our League’s Jen Burke, AVP – Communications & Outreach, was there to help get turkeys into the hands of Mainers! Despite the rain, Burke and the Hot Radio team saw a turnout for the books, giving away 200 turkeys to families in just 90 minutes this Thanksgiving.
Maine State Legislators Sworn Into Office
On Wednesday, the 132nd Maine Legislature was sworn-in to begin their two-year legislative term. After being sworn-in and electing Maine’s constitutional officers, legislators adjourned until January when their work will begin. Among the 186 winners of November’s election were 102 League endorsed candidates.

Lighthouse CU Wins 2024 “Best of Seacoast” Awards
Lighthouse CU has been honored with the title of “Best Credit Union” and recognized as a top finalist in the “Mortgage Lending Company” category in the 2024 Best of the Seacoast Community’s Choice Awards. These accolades, determined by votes from community members, reflect the credit union’s commitment to delivering outstanding service to its members.
League Joins KSW FCU in Mourning Anne L. Boulette
The League joins KSW FCU in mourning the loss of Anne L. Boulette, who spent 35 years as a dedicated staff member at the credit union and served as its CEO prior to her retirement. Anne also served on the League/Synergent Board of Directors from 1993-2005. We extend our sincerest condolences to Anne’s family and friends.
Evergreen CU Hosts Member Appreciation Night with Special Guest Travis Mills
On October 26, Evergreen CU proudly welcomed over 150 attendees to its annual Member Appreciation Night, held to celebrate and thank its dedicated members for their loyalty and commitment to the credit union. The highlight of the evening was an inspiring keynote address by retired U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Travis Mills, who shared his remarkable story of resilience and determination.

Next week, as you gather with your friends and family to celebrate Thanksgiving, I hope you will take a moment to acknowledge the important contributions our movement—and the unique role you played in it this past year—has made to improve the lives of our members, communities, and state. I am grateful for your efforts, and I know Maine’s credit union members are, too.
APSN Causes $95 Million Fine for Navy Federal CU
On November 7, the CFPB and Navy Federal CU (Navy Fed) agreed to a consent order where Navy Fed is required to pay more than $95 million for overdraft fees charged to members going back as far as 2020. At issue was the policy of “Authorized-Positive Settled Negative” (APSN) overdrafts and the changes in settlement deadlines and delays for person-to-person payments.
Election Results Resources Are Now Available for Maine Credit Unions
As the League continues to assess the ramifications of the election for our industry, we have created resources that credit unions can provide to employees and volunteers. These one-pagers, which are posted on the League’s website, outline endorsed and non-endorsed winners of state elections by chapter. The documents also detail the impacts these results have on federal and state politics.
League to Host Regional Dialogue Sessions Ahead of Board Election
This December, the League will be hosting regional dialogue sessions—offering credit unions a forum to network with peers in their region ahead of the League Board election. These sessions, held virtually due to Maine’s unpredictable weather, are being hosted to foster communication between Board candidates, voting presidents, and other interested parties.
