The Maine CU League's Annual Volunteers' Conference to cover timely topics

For the more than 1,000 credit union volunteers in Maine, the largest learning opportunity focused on helping volunteers be informed, engaged and knowledgeable about the growing number of issues and responsibilities that exist in financial services today is fast-approaching.  The Annual Volunteers' Conference takes place on October 27-28, at the Samoset in Rockport.

A pre-conference session led by CUNA Mutual's Jeff Davenport kicks off this year's Conference and takes place from 3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m., on Friday October 27.  Davenport will highlight credit union trends and provide updates on a variety of other topics for volunteers.  A social and dinner buffet, sponsored by Synergent, CUNA Mutual, and Tricorp FCU, follows.  The evening is capped off with fun and games with the Survey Says Game Show with Paul Giroux.  It's a game show that will keep attendees guessing and laughing, as well.

On Saturday, October 28, a full day of learning awaits volunteers beginning with an Issues Roundtable Discussion with Todd Mason, President of the Maine Credit Union League.  Mason will facilitate and cover lots of topics of interest to credit union volunteers.  A workshop featuring David Reed, Attorney at Law with Reed & Jolly, PLLC, is next and is focused on how boards can better recruit and retain members.  In his session called, Board Challenge: Building a Deeper Bench, Jolly will highlight ways in which credit unions can enhance the volunteer experience while also preparing for the next generation of volunteers.  After lunch, Celeste Cook, CEO/Founder of cuStrategies LLC leads a dynamic workshop, Board Leadership for Membership Growth: Rethink, Renew and Revive, aimed at helping credit union volunteers become more innovative and think outside the box to renew and revive their credit union to attract more members and more loans.

"Volunteers are such an important part of credit unions, and this Conference is just for them and the unique needs and demands that are expected of today's credit union volunteer.  We've put together a Conference that covers many of the topics that CU leaders and volunteers have expressed a desire to hear and learn more about," explained Cheryl Lancaster, SVP of Member Services at the Maine CU League.
