Resolving to help! Media taps Maine CUs for tips to help consumers be financially successful in 2018


Being not-for-profit, financial cooperatives, credit unions are focused on helping better the lives of their members.  To help both the existing 685,000 credit union members and all Maine consumers get their finances in order for 2018, many Maine media outlets did special segments with tips and advice to make the New Year a successful one financially.  Because of the strong reputation that credit unions have for being focused on helping consumers save money, a number of Maine media outlets utilized the expertise of Maine credit unions to share those tips.

During the month of December, the Maine CU League participated in and/or coordinated segments that aired on six TV stations across Maine, offering financial tips ranging from how to budget to the value and benefits that using a credit unions can provide to consumers.  "Maine consumers saved $57 million last year by using a credit union, as a result of lower and fewer fees, and better rates on savings and loans," said Jon Paradise, Vice President of Public Affairs and Engagement at the Maine CU League, in a segment that aired on ABC 7 and FOX 22 in Bangor.

Jake Holmes (pictured above during his interview), Maine's credit unions' Spokester, talked about ways to cut expenses including the cost of buying coffee out everyday vs. brewing it at home, and how easy it is to switch to a credit union and lower your costs of financial services.  "Put together a plan to get your finances in order - that's a big step in getting started," Holmes said in an interview that aired on WCSH 6 and WLBZ 2.

In addition to TV segments, the League coordinated two radio segments that aired on Hot 104.7, and 92 MOOSE, and offered ways in which CUs can help save consumers money in 2018.
