As Maine's 2016 'Crash the GAC' representative, a nationwide program supported by state Leagues, the Filene Institute and the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) designed to get more young credit union professionals politically involved, Adam Carrier of Infinity FCU has a "much better understanding of the importance to get more politically involved."

Carrier, who has worked at the credit union for the past nine years and currently holds the position of Business Development and Training Manager, explained the value of attending, "Participation will go a long way in helping you to get a well-rounded understanding of how the credit union industry operates. It will also highlight you amongst your peers as very few YPs are focused on these crucial matters. The leaders in your organization will recognize the initiative you show and it may just help you to advance in your career. If we want to be the leaders of tomorrow, advocacy is a foundational piece of what, why and how we do things as an industry."
In addition to attending the Maine CU League's Annual Breakfast with Maine's Congressional Delegation, Carrier participated in a number of events and activities focused on building a better understanding of the legislative and political process for younger credit union professionals. "It was not onlly a great learning experience but a wonderful networking experience."
John Murphy, President of the Maine CU League, said programs, such as 'Crash the GAC' and the growing Maine Young Professionals Network (YPN) are important in "getting more young people involved in activities outside of their own credit union. Individuals like Adam are the future of the credit union system in Maine, so getting them engaged in political and other activities is essential to ensuring that the next generation recognizes the value of participating in these types of events and programs."
