Credit unions from around the state have once again proven that they’re truly part of the community over the past month. As we approach International Credit Union Day, it’s important to reflect on our past while we celebrate the difference that credit unions continue to make today. Whether it’s benefiting Ending Hunger, MCCP, or even pets in the community, here’s a quick look at what Maine CUs have been up to in the past month:

  • For every Portland Sea Dogs run scored this past season, Atlantic FCU donated $10 to the Campaign for Ending Hunger. There were 618 runs scored, with $6,180 going to a great cause.
  • Bangor FCU hosted their 6th Annual Ending Hunger in Maine Golf Tournament on September 15.
  • After raising over $2,000 from their 2nd Annual Motorcycle Ride to End Hunger, Casco FCU donated the funds to the Gorham Food Pantry and Catherine’s Cupboard in Standish to take care of neighbors in need.
  • Central Maine CU has brought back their popular Money Mondays, which are weekly financial literacy classes hosted by the credit union.
  • Changing Seasons FCU raised over $3,700 to benefit Ending Hunger during their Bikes, Beans & Mean Machines event on September 15.
  • As the official credit union of the Maine Mariners Hockey team, Evergreen CU will be flying the hockey team’s flags at their branches to kick off the inaugural season.
  • Five County CU branches collected over 1,000 lbs. of food throughout their AniMeals Pet Food Drive, which will help feed pets in the community with appropriate foods.
  • Lisbon Community FCU’s Annual Monty Moose Store Day took place on September 15. Monty Moose account holders had the opportunity to spend their monty bucks on lots of fun toys.
  • Maine State CU hosted their 5k Run for the Trees – Run to End Hunger event on October 6.
  • Norstate FCU staff showed what the credit union philosophy is all about when they volunteered at the Madawaska Food Pantry in late September.
  • Otis FCU’s Cash Calendar for Ending Hunger is back! Members can buy chances for cash prizes every day during the month of October, with proceeds benefiting the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Penobscot County FCU celebrated their 50th year at the Old Town Riverfest and Howland Homecoming on September 29. They participated in two parades and hosted a Hot Chocolate Bar for Ending Hunger.
  • Sabattus RCU raised $3,500 for Ending Hunger during their 4th Annual Bike Ride & BBQ on September 23.
  • TruChoice FCU participated in the Maine Children’s Cancer Program Walk on September 15, where they raised over $7,000 to help support MCCP.
  • University CU helped aspiring first-time home buyers learn everything the needed to know about buying a home during their one-day course at the University of Maine Augusta’s Bangor Campus on October 6.
  • York County FCU kicked off football season with a tailgate party at their Sanford branch on September 28. All proceeds from the event went to fight
