Credit Union News & Events


Credit unions kicked off spring with a full roster of events and philanthropic efforts. Here is a snapshot of what Maine’s credit unions were up to last month:

  • Acadia FCU announced that they’re awarding $6,000 in scholarships to area high school seniors. Interested applicants must apply by June 14, 2019.
  • In honor of April being National Volunteer Month, Atlantic FCU collected nominations for favorite nonprofits. At the end of the month, Make-A-Wish Maine received a $1,000 donation from the credit union.
  • Throughout National Credit Union Youth Month, Bangor FCU’s young members had the chance to enter to win cool prizes, including a $25 cash deposit and a Fujifilm Instax Mini camera.
  • Brewer FCU elected two new board members in mid-April, with the board voting for officers on April 25.
  • Capital Area FCU held a coloring contest for young members on April 18. Winners were given Barnes and Noble gift cards, and any deposits a child made that day earned double Moose Bucks.
  • Casco FCU presented a check for $3,000 to the Standish Food Pantry on April 24.
  • On April 12, Central Maine CU made a $2,000 donation to Maine’s Special Olympics program.
  • Community CU securely shredded over 3,300 lbs. of confidential documents, filled a truck with electronics, and collected over 80 tires to be recycled during their Auburn Community Recycle Event on April 20.
  • cPort CU kicked off their Annual Calendar Photo Contest on April 17. cPort will select twelve photos and award one Grand Prize winner with $150. The winner also will have their photo featured on the front of the credit union calendar.
  • Dirigo FCU employees visited local elementary schools to teach students about the importance of saving money during National Credit Union Youth Month.
  • Downeast CU announced their fresh new look on April 19, unveiling a new logo and website.
  • Eastmill FCU announced a scholarship for members heading to college in the fall. Qualifying high school seniors will have the chance to win $500 after the completion of their first semester.
  • Five County CU kicked off April with in-house fundraisers for Ending Hunger, Special Olympics, and the Westbrook Recovery Liaison Program.
  • A team from Gardiner FCU raised over $1,700 to feed area families during the Feed ME 5K, Walk to End Hunger on April 27.
  • New Young Explorer account openers at Infinity FCU were entered to win a family adventure gift basket that included a season pass to Acadia National Park, a $50 LL Bean gift card, and Manny the Stuffed Moose throughout National Credit Union Youth Month.
  • In honor of James A. Veilleux, a KSW FCU board member who passed away in 2012, the credit union is offering a $500 scholarship to a graduating full-time student. Applications are due by May 18, 2019.
  • KV FCU completed the finishing touches on their new Waterville branch in April. Their official grand opening was celebrated on May 2.
  • Lincoln Maine FCU held a name contest for the new branch companion throughout April. To meet Kash, the credit union’s new resident fish, visit their lobby.
  • Lisbon Community FCU opened up their Rochel “Russ” Livernois scholarship last month. The credit union is giving out four $1,000 scholarships to qualifying high school seniors.
  • Maine Family FCU offered free photos with the Easter Bunny to members at their Auburn location on April 13.
  • On April 27, Maine State CU held their Feed ME 5K Walk, which benefits Ending Hunger in Maine.
  • New Dimensions FCU raised $222.50 during their Bake Sale on Friday, April 19. All the proceeds with go to Ending Hunger and Maine’s Special Olympics program.
  • For every member that switched from paper to e-statements April 21 through 27, NorState FCU donated $2 to the Aroostook Cooperative Extension.
  • OTIS FCU staff taught financial literacy basics to Spruce Mountain Elementary School third graders and kindergarteners during National Credit Union Youth Month.
  • Oxford FCU employees joined the community in working together, block by block, to clean up litter from the roadsides in the town of Mexico on April 28.
  • Thanks to Penobscot County FCU, $1 from each reusable shopping bag purchased at the Brewer Hannaford in April was donated to benefit Ending Hunger.
  • PeoplesChoice CU presented a check for $22,362.68 at their Annual Meeting. The money will benefit fifteen different food programs in Southern Maine.
  • Sabattus RCU welcomed the Easter Bunny to their branch on April 13, offering free photos to both members and non-members.
  • Saco Valley CU’s unveiled new signage to reflect the credit union’s updated logo. Their new sign at their 312 Main St. branch in Saco went up on April 25. Two additional locations will have their new signs soon.
  • Seaboard FCU launched Zoe’s Club, their new financial literacy club for members under the age of 18 last month.
  • Sebasticook Valley FCU held a Blood Drive on April 17, with donors receiving a $5 Subway gift card and American Red Cross/Game of Thrones posters.
  • On April 25, Town & Country FCU co-hosted an informational meeting with Crossroad Holdings and The Scoville Foley Team about Scarborough’s popular new housing development project, The Downs.
  • In addition to education, cool prizes, giveaways, and games, Trademark FCU shared baby photos of their staff on social media in honor of National Credit Union Youth Month.
  • TruChoice FCU’s scholarship application window came to a close on April 12, with a total of $2,000 being awarded to Maine high school seniors.
  • University CU matched the first $5 deposit on all new Monty Moose accounts opened during National Credit Union Youth Month.
  • Throughout April, Winslow Community FCU encouraged young members to snap and pin a photo of their goals to the lobby bulletin board. All those who posted their photo were entered in to a drawing, with the winner walking away with a new Polaroid camera.
  • York County FCU raised $367.50 for Ending Hunger during their Painting With a Purpose fundraiser on April 7.
