Best Places to Work List highlights that Maine CUs aren't just great for financial services, but for workplaces, too

In a scan of the 2017 list of 'Best Places to Work in Maine', no other group had more representation on the list than Maine credit unions.  Out of 80 recipients, an impressive 14 credit union and credit union-related organizations were on the list.  Perhaps, even more impressive, was the fact that when final rankings were announced at the Best Places to Work in Maine banquet in October, one-quarter of those organizations in the Top 10 were credit unions.

"When it comes to financial services and the best value, Maine credit unions have received a lot of attention, especially in recent years.  With the 'Best Places to Work' awards we received, it's also great to see credit unions recognized as great employers," noted Todd Mason, President of the Maine Credit Union League, which, along with its subsidiary, was designated as a 2017 Best Places to Work in Maine honoree.

Maine credit unions clearly appreciate the recognition.  "As a first year applicant, Down East CU (DECU) was elated to be ranked fourth among the 41 ranking medium sized organizations in Maine," stated Joe Moses, President/CEO of Down East CU. "A couple of years ago, DECU was experiencing high turnover with our staff and we knew we could do better; better for our membership, employees and community. Now, we are proud to be taking care of our team members and we will strive to continuously improve the working environment for our staff each year. It is wonderful for DECU to be recognized as a positive, enthusiastic workplace where we truly value our employees."  Evergreen CU, which along with Infinity FCU was in the Top 10 in that category, had a similar reaction.  "It's a great honor to be named one of the Best Places to Work in Maine. In the medium sized business category we were 36th last year and jumped to number 7 this year. It's a direct result of how our team believes in the credit union and it goes to the heart of our ability to provide world class service to our members and to each other as employees. Everyone here at Evergreen CU is excited about what we are doing for our employees and we are all very excited about this honor," said Jason Lindstrom, President/CEO of Evergreen CU.

Two of the Top 10 in the Small Organizations category were also credit unions.  "We're a small, tight-knit workplace and that is reflected in the relationship we have with our members.  It was great to be recognized for what we do for our staff, too," stated Tiffiny Stewart, President/CEO of Sabattus Regional CU, which was ranked #5.  TruChoice FCU also placed in the Top 10 in that category at #7.

The complete list of credit unions named Best Places to Work in Maine for 2017 is: (Small Organizations) - Sabattus Regional CU; TruChoice FCU; Oxford FCU; and Trademark FCU; (Medium Organizations) - Down East CU; Evergreen CU; Infinity FCU; cPort CU; Maine State CU; PeoplesChoice CU; York County FCU; University CU; Town & Country FCU; and the Maine CU League/Synergent.
