A Salute to CU volunteers

In society, volunteers contribute in so many ways.  From volunteering to coach youth sports and packing backpacks for hungry children to coordinating fundraising for the local PTA and spending time with a big brother or big sister, without volunteers many organizations could not exist.  For credit unions, volunteers are all of those things and so much more.

As part of the not-for-profit, cooperative structure of credit unions, the role of a credit union volunteer helps provide leadership, make decisions, and add guidance in support of their credit union’s service and operations on behalf of the member-owners.  These volunteers aren’t appointed for big salaries but rather volunteer their time, energy and expertise for no financial compensation but because they care passionately about the credit union mission and philosophy.

During the month of April, National Volunteer Week is celebrated as a way of ‘lending’ special recognition to the thousands of individulas who make a difference by contributing their time and expertise to organizations in our community every day.  This year, National Volunteer Week will be celebrated from April 15-21.  As a special way of honoring the more than 1,000 credit union volunteers that contribute thousands of hours annually to make their credit union and their communities a better place, we are spotlighting the important role of credit union volunteers through several, special feature articles in this month’s issue.

Please join us as we pay tribute to the credit union volunteers who do so much.
