Vice President of Human Resources


Downeast CU is hiring a Vice President of Human Resources. This position will report to the Chief Financial Officer & SVP of Administration and can be a remote position, hybrid, or based at one of the credit union’s eight branch locations.

Basic Functions:

The Vice President of Human Resources (VP of HR) advises senior management on the credit union’s day-to-day human resource functions. The VP of HR will also administer and monitor human resources programs and ensure compliance with credit union policies and external rules and regulations. The VP of HR participates in developing systems, goals, and objectives, providing staff and managers with an effective resource for resolving employee relations issues.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Process weekly payroll and maintain the payroll system.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports for accounting.
  • Update and process employee benefits, which include but may not be limited to:
    • 401K Plan
    • Group Term Life Insurance
    • Short- & Long-Term Disability Insurance
    • Medical, Dental, Life, and Vision Insurance
  • Coordinate the annual renewal process for benefits, including rate quoting and negotiation with carriers.
  • Correspond with benefits providers, 401k & Retirement Plan Advisers, and HR Attorneys to ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Coordinate the annual training schedule of the Team.
  • Prepare job advertisements for various media, including websites.
  • Review all job applications and forward qualified applicants to the department manager for review.
  • Conduct phone interviews for potential new hires and participate in in-person interviews with department managers.
  • Coordinate new employee orientation, including:
    • Spending time with each new hire on their first day;
    • Ensuring new Team Members receive and complete all necessary paperwork before placement in the payroll system;
    • Following up with new employees to discuss benefit packages as required.
  • Work with the Senior Management Team and HR Attorney to make continuous updates and recommendations to the Culture and Guidebook.
  • Provide miscellaneous reports to Senior Management Team.
  • Maintain the HR intranet site.
  • Coordinate with third parties for ongoing cultural development.
  • Maintain personnel files.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

  • A Bachelor’s degree and/or formal certifications in the field.
  • Experience with payroll administration.

  • Strong technical skills.
