Downeast CU is hiring a Lending Expert | Sales. This position will report to the Director of Lending Sales and can be a remote position, hybrid, or based at one of the credit union’s eight branch locations.
Summary
The Lending Expert is responsible for a high volume of consumer loan applications from current and new members. This sales-oriented position is built on a foundation of relationship building by offering exceptional loan experiences to members and potential members by taking a tailored and consultative approach with each individual member. Lending Experts work directly with applicants who apply for a loan through all available channels (online, email, phone, virtual from branch, etc.). This position demonstrates a highly motivated, positive, outgoing personality with a strong emphasis on ethics, sales and results orientation. Lending Experts must consistently demonstrate the ability to think independently, outside the box, by effectively responding to each individual member’s unique situation.
This position commands a thorough knowledge of the lending process from application to closing to ensure maximum funding rates. Is fully knowledgeable of all credit union products and services and is able to confidently offer appropriate solutions to fit member’s needs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assumes responsibility for effective and consistent performance to achieve assigned loan goals
- Inputs accurate and descriptive consumer loan applications uncovering additional sources of income or collateral if needed.
- Confidently reads credit bureau reports to recognize opportunities for offering DECU loans or other products that will benefit the member.
- Maintains a thorough understanding of all credit union products and offers appropriate products to meet each member’s unique needs.
- Consistently meets high volume of loan production and product sale goals.
- Uses ethical judgement during every member’s loan process. Regularly follows up with approved members to help them through the process.
- Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining professional business relationships.
- Conduct loan interviews to determine needs and recommend available products.
- Ability to counsel members for future lending if a loan is unable to be granted, this includes coaching the members and setting milestones to help them achieve their goals.
- Ability to build professional relationships with each member and become their trusted financial partner, promoting repeat business and referrals of friends or family.
- The ability to ask conversation promoting and sales-producing questions.
- Delivers quality service using all forms of communication.
- Coach members by using credit score enhancement tools; educate members on how risk-based pricing works and how they can get the best rate in the future.
- Contacts dealers, private party sellers, and other financial institutions to help applicants obtain necessary information for completing their loan.
- Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective coordination and working relations with DECU personnel.
- Exhibits respect and professionalism with Down East Credit Union personnel.
- Collaborates and problem solves with coworkers.
- Works closely with loan processors and underwriters to ensure members’ needs are met.
- Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned
- Maintains understanding of loan policy, products, and services.
- Provides feedback on daily duties to promote process improvements.

We Are Seeking Candidates With:
- Education
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Experience
- Two to four years of similar or related experience preferred.
- Required Knowledge
- Knowledge of credit union products and services, policies, and
procedures. - Knowledge of credit union computer software, including Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of Lending rules and regulations.
- Comprehensive understanding of direct lending procedures.
