Accounting Specialist I

Midcoast FCU is seeking an Accounting Specialist I to support our Accounting Department at our Freeport location. This individual will assist in the accurate and timely reconciliation of accounting records and daily processing duties. This role is responsible for processing accounts payable transactions while ensuring compliance with internal controls and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This role monitors, maintains, and reconciles payment processing, verifying invoices, and performing account reconciliations. Along with assisting the Accounting Department with other tasks as assigned, this role will also act as support for ACH processing. This is a hybrid position with some in office work required. The ability to report to a designated branch location as needed is expected.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • With limited direction, performs the accurate daily balancing of Retail Branch totals, Tricorp activity, change funds, the related general ledger accounts, process weekly cash orders, 945 filings and other supporting records.
  • Maintains and reconciles accounts payable. Review, verify, and reconcile invoices, report discrepancies in billing and payments and assist with resolutions. Review invoices, check requests and related documentation for completeness and ensure compliance with internal policies, procedures and contractual agreements, and recommends improvements to accounts payable policies and procedures.
  • Act as backup support for ACH processing, file maintenance reviews, comply with record retention policy and provide administrative support for facility related items.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience:

1-3 years similar or related experience.

Education:

A high school education or GED is required. An Accounting degree is preferred but not required.
