Why wait? Go All-In for CUNA Councils! This week’s Council spotlight: Marketing and Business Development

In conjunction with the Credit Union National Association’s (CUNA) 2018 All In Campaign to encourage credit unions from across the country, including Maine, to sign up at least one CU professional for each CUNA Council, your League will be spotlighting a different CUNA Council each week. CUNA Councils provide a perfect complement to your League’s Councils, with one more focused on specific state issues and the other more focused on a national perspective. Credit unions that are represented in all seven CUNA Councils by August 17, 2018, will be entered to win a choice of two prizes, valued up to $10,000. This week, we shine the spotlight on the CUNA Marketing & Business Development Council.

The Council describes itself as providing “marketing insights with a credit union spin.”  The Council provides support to marketing and business development professionals by being savvy, connected and industry-focused.  Throughout the year, the Council offers programs and other learning opportunities, highlighted by a popular Annual Conference, as well as coordinating the Diamond Awards program.

There are currently 21 Maine CU professionals that are members of the CUNA Marketing and Business Development Council.  Ginny Hughes, President/CEO of Changing Seasons FCU, has been a Council member since 2014, and enjoys the benefits.  “As a member of the MBD Council, I have access to excellent resources like virtual roundtables and white papers. The annual conference provides opportunities for networking and keeping up with the latest innovations in the industry.  I have been a Diamond Awards Judge for two years and look forward to judging for a third year.  Judging provides an ability to view the work of your peers and provide feedback while recognizing the top folks in the industry.”  Jason Lindstrom, President/CEO of Evergreen CU, has been a member of the CUNA for most of his more than two decade credit union career and is more involved than ever in the Council.  “For the past 6 years I have served on the Executive Committee of the Council and am currently the Vice Chair.  Over the years, I have found the Council to be a great resource and an asset to my personal development as well as a place to network with others in the field within credit unions.  There are many tools available through the Council, like the Council Community website where the sharing of ideas goes on daily to the annual conference where you can hear from some world renowned speakers and network with peers.”

In Maine, the Maine CU Marketing Council provides a Maine-focus for members, and many CU professionals are members of both Councils.  The state’s oldest Council, the Marketing Council offers great learning opportunities to compliment the national perspective that the CUNA Marketing and Business Development Council provides.  In fact, the Maine CU Marketing Council has its summer workshop coming up on August 16th in Freeport.  To register, click here.
