Plans for International Credit Union Day

As credit unions around the state celebrate their members on International Credit Union Day, the League will be celebrating the commitment Maine’s credit unions and their members have made to their communities.

During that week, we will spotlight our Campaign for Ending Hunger and the work credit unions are doing in their communities, both to raise awareness of credit unions’ People Helping People philosophy and to boost contributions to the campaign. Our initiatives around Credit Union Day will include placing half-page ads in newspapers across the state on October 18 and blanketing the state with radio and digital ads for the week leading up to Credit Union Day and the week following. All radio, digital, and social media marketing during those two weeks will focus on the Ending Hunger campaign. We also are contacting various media outlets around the state in an effort to have stories written about the campaign, the over $8,000,000 Maine credit unions have raised since 1990, and various initiatives around the state. Many credit unions have their own traditions around Credit Union Day, and we hope our advertisements will further support these activities, initiatives, and messages.

We also will be updating the MaineCreditUnions.org website with a new section on the Campaign for Ending Hunger. We would like to include within that section stories about what credit unions around the state are doing within their communities to help end hunger in Maine. So please send us any stories you would like to share.

Finally, we have been working hard over the past few months on a relaunch of our “Own It” Campaign. Some of you already may have noticed our updated radio advertisements or the ads we are putting in new places, such as NESN and Maine Public Radio. We also have been working on new television and digital media advertisements, although the new television commercials will not begin running until after the midterm elections.

Please do not hesitate to contact Tim Brooks, the League’s Vice President of Corporate Marketing, if you have any questions or thoughts regarding the League’s efforts around International Credit Union Day or the “Own It” Campaign.
