Dupuis has many memories, accomplishments as he finishes nearly 40-year CU career

richarddupuis.JPGFor Five County CU's President/CEO, Richard Dupuis (pictured above), his career in financial services didn't start at a credit union.  In fact, it started in a small bank in Manchester, NH.  "My banking experience was short-lived and, once I started working at a credit union, never looked back," Dupuis explained.  Dupuis retires at the end of May after a nearly 40-year credit union career.

Since 1977, when Richard was hired as the Treasurer/Manager, he has guided the credit union from its original field of membership serving employees of Bath Iron Works, with total assets of $3.7 million and 3,924 accounts, to a community charter credit union now spanning an eight-county field of membership. Today, Five County CU operates a 15 branch network with more than $226 million in total assets and over 26,000 accounts. Throughout his career, Richard has been recognized as a leader and innovator in the credit union industry, championing member convenience through extended hours and pioneering video banking in Maine, including the creation and implementation of his Retail Banking Delivery System, in use at three of the credit union's branch locations.

Richard's contributions to the credit union system extend well beyond his credit union having served on the Maine Credit Union League and Synergent Board of Directors since 2001, including three years as Chair, as well as Director of the New England Credit Union Executives Society, and as Chairman of the Board of Directors for CUSO Home Lending and Business Lending Solutions, LLC.  Dupuis has also been an active contributor to a variety of causes including the Maine Credit Unions' Campaign for Ending Hunger, CULAC and Maine Special Olympics.  He has also received multiple awards including the James M. Gratto Award for Outstanding CU CEO, and the League President's Award for Outstanding League Volunteer.

John Murphy, President of the Maine Credit Union League, said, "Dick has always been a strong advocate for credit union issues, and ready to lend a hand to help.  His experience, support and knowledge will be missed.  We wish him the best in his retirement, and appreciate his many contributions."

"It's been an honor and privilege to work in such a wonderful industry.  I have many fond memories and cherish the many friendships I have made over the years.  While I am looking forward to spending more time traveling with my family and having fun with my grandchildren, the Credit Union Movement has been like a family to me.  I will miss seeing the great people I have worked with for many years on a daily basis," said Dupuis.

Julie Marquis, who has been with Five County CU since 1993, and has most recently served as EVP/COO, will become President/CEO effective June 1st.
